The City of Indianapolis, in partnership with RISE INDY, will serve more than 1,000 K-3 students in need of literacy intervention via the Circle City Readers program with an investment of $1 million in federal pandemic funding.
Launching in early 2023, Circle City Readers is modeled after successful efforts in other cities where full-time literacy tutors have been hired and trained using the evidence-based “Science of Reading” method.
The literacy tutors meet in small groups with 2-3 students for at least three weekly sessions. Tutoring will take place in schools or at community centers or other convenient locations; this program will be optional for local students across the city. The only requirement is residency in Marion County.
Circle City Readers is one of many tools our community can use to strengthen young minds and build toward that vision. We want to thank local school districts, partner organizations and others who also are working to improve local literacy rates.
